About Burns

A burn is a damage to body tissue which is composed of different layers of skin. Burns are mainly caused by heat, chemicals, electricity, sunlight, friction, or radiation. Based on the depth of the injury, the burn is either classified as a first, second, or third degree burn.

First degree – Burns damage only the outer layer of the skin (Superficial skin)
Second degree – Burns damage the outer layer and the layer underneath
Third degree – Burns damage or destroy the deepest layer of the skin and tissues underneath
