What is Urinary Retention?

Urinary Retention is the inability to empty the bladder fully. Your doctor may diagnose you with either a chronic or an acute urinary retention. Generally, with a chronic urinary retention there is an obstruction preventing urine flow freely through the urinary track. A common example for a urinary obstruction are kidney stones. With an acute urinary retention there may be a nerve problem that is causing an interference with signals between the brain and the bladder.
