What inspired you to work in wound care, and what do you enjoy most about your role?
The Wound Care opportunity unexpectedly came to me over 10 years ago when members of Strive shared what made Strive special. This sparked my interest in the role. I enjoy the patient care aspect of my role, having been in the medical field since 1998, starting as a receptionist and progressing through various positions, including Insurance Specialist and Benefits Administration. I also appreciate working with my amazing team.
How do you support patients in their wound care journey?
I support patients by listening, being present, doing everything I can to help them each day. I am happy to go the extra mile to provide answers for them. I am resilient in getting any problems solved for them that may arise as well. If they need extra care they have a direct number to reach out to me at any time.
What’s one challenge you face as a Wound Care Patient Care Coordinator, and how do you overcome it?
Navigating Relationships with Clients (Referral Sources) who struggle with Insurance Guidelines is the most challenging part of the job. I often encounter clients who don’t fully grasp the insurance guidelines that limit our ability to serve patients exactly as they wish. To address this, I strive to educate myself, my team, clinics, and the sales team as thoroughly as possible. This way, we can provide clinics with a clear understanding of the guidelines we must adhere to. However, I find the pushback we receive in these situations to be quite challenging.
